As players explore the map, they'll fight not only wildlife but also a variety of undead and supernatural enemies. Their main foe however is a faction called the "Corrupted".

The inventory is limited by weight and so is the equipped gear. Equipped weapons have to be dragged to the hotbar in order to be used.

There are trinkets such as rings, earrings and amulets that come with a gem that cannot be replaced. There are also other items like duffel bags, that increase the amount of weight you can carry in your inventory.

This will not have a major impact on the story itself, but some of the dialogue and scenes differ slightly for the different genders and personalities.

New World now has a opt-in PvP system. You can only switch between PvP-enabled/-disabled in your player house or a settlement, then venture out into the world either completely safe from others or able to freely engage those who have also enabled PvP. To be able to opt-in to PvP, you need to be at least level 10 and have joined a faction.

A plate armor wielding battlemage is possible in New World. The system allows you to specialize as you see fit using Weapon Masteries or even completely ignore combat skills and become a Master Craftsman or Trader. It's possible to respec for free early, and later by paying a fee. This allows players to experiment with different combinations before choosing their path, or change their build completely later in the game.

Additionally players can bind to the inn in one settlement, and while in a settlement they can teleport to any other settlement they've previosly visited. All these fast travel options are limited either by long cooldowns or Azoth costs.

Breakaway was colorful with a whole cast of unique, interesting characters and New World puts you in the generic clothes of a settler who only later differentiates themselves after acquiring new skills.

Settlements can be attacked by other companies during war or by NPC invasions. If a settlement is unclaimed (at the start of the game), it can be claimed by simply paying a fee at the territory's fort.

You can always have two weapons in a build: a primary and a secondary. Creating a build that has a balance between the two weapons is a lot of fun. Weapons and armor can be imbued with Gems later in the game.

Another feature that we already know about is Invasions, where hordes of corrupted or undead will assault player settlements.

While I love the feeling of crafting my own stuff, slowly increasing the areas that I’m strong enough to explore, and fastidiously upping all my gathering and crafting skills, I can see those charms fading rapidly as the activities become somewhat rote. The dynamics involved in faction wars and territory control seem to be the peppy antidote for the never-ending rock farm in various undead click here shacks and homesteads. As with other games that lean into this kind of emergent gameplay (RIP Shadowbane), some of New World will be what players shape it into.
